How to play 2048
Combine equal numbered tiles until you create the 2048 tile, then keep playing if you want to chase a higher score.
Start playing
- Swipe, press an arrow key, or use WASD to slide every tile on the board in one direction.
- When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile worth their combined value.
- Keep space open for new tiles and build larger pairs without filling all 16 squares.
2048 strategy tips
- Choose one corner for your largest tile and avoid moving it away without a clear reason.
- Build a descending chain of values beside that corner so the next merge is always within reach.
- Prefer two main directions and use the third only to escape; random four-way swipes break useful rows.
